Websites are a key factor in getting customers interested in products/services. If visits are low, we have some ideas to help boost customer clicks.

First thing’s first, are you happy with the look and usability of your website? If the answer is no, it’s probably time for a change. A lot of modern websites are minimalist in terms of written content and pages/sub-pages. Too much written information can put off potential customers. If something needs explaining a bit more in-depth, embedding or linking a video might be a better route to take. As well as this, too many pages and sub-pages can result in people get sucked into a never-ending blackhole of links. You can never go wrong with simple navigation menu that directs people to necessary information (home, about us, our products/services, contact us), resources pages or an image gallery could also be beneficial depending on your industry, but over-complicating the navigation will only end in tears (most likely from your website users).

If you are happy with the look and feel of your website but think you should be getting more visits, do you know if your content is optimised for search engines? SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is a key part of where your site features on a SERP (Search Engine Results Page). Simple checks like making sure your content is original and relevant will help improve rankings, as well as adding descriptions to images in the background of your site. Adding meta-data and keywords to pages (this should also be done in the background) can also help improve visibility of your website. It’s just worth noting that in-depth research will be needed to understand how your target audiences use search to look for businesses in your industry, in order to have the best chances of optimising your website for search engines.

Other proven ways to boost website visits is through the use of social media. Depending on your business and whether you have social media accounts, Facebook and Instagram can be used to promote various pages of your website to potential customers through organic posts or through sponsored posts/advertising. Sponsored posts reach a larger audience than organic posts as organic posts are only shown to existing followers, whilst sponsored posts can be promoted to those outside of your social media followers. If you decide to create a sponsored post for Facebook or Instagram, it’s important to include an ‘action’ (e.g. learn more, buy now, contact us) and a reason for people to follow that action (e.g. to get the best offer, to understand how we can help you, for more information). The key message should be promoting your business and its products/services, short sentences would be better for this, as audiences generally have a short attention span when it comes to promotional material.

Websites still play a key role in the customer buying journey, as they usually house  vital information customers are looking for about products/services. Therefore, it’s important to keep on top of your website in terms of design, navigation, content, and search engine optimisation, in order to maximise visits.
